Job Description Job Description Staff Geotechnical Engineer I
RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibilities include, but are not
limited to: Performing geotechnical evaluations related to new or
expanding landfill facilities, including settlement, slope
stability, seepage, evaluation of liner systems, leachate
collection and closure cap materials, drainage layer and filtration
calculations. Managing and directing subsurface explorations by
soil test borings, CPT, Geoprobe and geophysical methods of site
conditions for use in geotechnical evaluation and analysis. Select,
locate and quantify low permeability soils, soils suitable for
structural fill, and geotechnical drilling to identify rock and
groundwater. Construction Quality Assurance (CQA), responsibilities
from pre-construction to monitoring, sampling, and testing
completion and reports to state regulatory agencies during landfill
construction projects. Implements technical requirements to
complete client projects by directing field staff to sample, test,
and collect data and/or document on-site activities at various
client sites. Evaluates routine laboratory and field data for
inclusion in reports. Performs calculations using engineering
formulas and skills. Prepares reports and correspondence regarding
the direction of assigned projects. A variety of field and office
assignments should be expected. POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND BASIC
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering
and/or Civil Engineering 0-4 years of working experience in a
geotechnical engineering consulting, project management,
GeoStructure design, or solid waste landfill CQA position. Salary
will be commensurate with experience. EIT certification or ability
to obtain within 1 year. Able to work out in the field up to 50% of
the time, traveling throughout the southeastern United States
(Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia,
North Floriday and parts of Alabama). Strong analytical skills and
experience with variety of geotechnical analysis, evaluations, and
calculations. Working proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil3D Working
experience with Coal Combustion Residual (CCR) containment is
preferred. Experience providing verbal and written recommendations,
producing reports, calculations, technical figures, charts,
drawings, and specifications. Field experience and familiarity with
construction sites. Self-Motivated and ability to manage time and
priorities. Ability to complete projects and tasks on an individual
basis, as well as work collaboratively as part of a project team.
History and interest in continued involvement in professional /
