Summary
In support of Culture of Zero, the person assuming this position is
to coordinate all Environmental activities for the organization.
The incumbent will act as a team member to Operations,
Distribution/Transportation, Services, Corporate Environmental
Staff, and ensure Environmental is considered in all appropriate
business activities. Incumbent will lead the efforts to implement
an effective Environmental management system to address risks
associated with the business. In addition, support the overall
Corporate Environmental strategies and initiatives across all
environmental media (air/greenhouse gas/water/waste/energy) to
comply with environmental regulations, permit requirements,
internal policies and standards across the organization.
Description of Duties and Responsibilities
*Create synergy and support the Culture of Zero culture. Develop
and monitor effective Environmental management strategies, provide
recommendations and technical expertise on regulatory
compliance.
*Assist in conducting environmental regulatory assessments of plant
and capital projects to define and secure environmental approvals.
This includes developing environmental permitting strategies,
preparing (or coordinating preparation) of applications,
interaction with the customer and regulatory authorities as
required, and the creation of appropriate project
documentation.
*Monitor agency rule-making and analyze emerging regulations to
settle impact on plant operations, existing permits, etc.
*Develop, maintain and improve environmental compliance tools,
monitoring, sampling and testing programs to demonstrate compliance
with regulatory and permit limits for assigned facilities. Respond
to agency requests and prepare and or submit timely reports to
informational requests.
*Direct and train facility personnel in environmental compliance
permit and regulatory requirements, including any tools for
compliance.
*Prepare and submit environmental compliance reports to local,
state, and federal agencies for assigned facilities. Assist as
needed with completion of manifests.
*Audit and monitor activities to ensure all environmental
regulatory requirements are being met. Provide effective
communication and liaison support between employees, facility
management, and federal, state, & local regulatory agencies. Meet
regulatory agencies and internal company audit personnel during
environmental audit/inspection visits to provide requested info,
documentation, responses, etc. that demonstrate a compliant
position.
*Drive and execute a comprehensive multi-year strategy to continue
the company's drive toward zero environmental incidents. The
strategy focuses on both technical systems/standards, leadership,
behavioral, and cultural aspects.
*Ensure the construction, expansion and other production
operational changes have appropriate permits as required.
Coordinate resources to ensure Environmental aspects and
requirements, including legal requirements.
*Coordinate Environmental audits and assessments to assure
compliance with regulatory requirements (waste management, waste
streams, EPCRA, storm water, spill prevention and sustainability),
establish Key Performance Measures (KPIs), Total Targets to Improve
(TTIs) expectations, identify opportunities for improvement.
*Facilitate incident investigations including root cause analysis
for corrective actions. Collaborate with Lean to assist personnel
on environmental investigations and proper documentation. Measure
plant performance, benchmarking against best in class
manufacturing.
*Support the locations in the development and maintenance of
Environmental systems, ISO, and or equivalent management
systems.

*Stay abreast of dynamic business conditions and ensure
Environmental management systems are sufficient to maintain

*Act as an Environmental coach and mentor for plant managers and
Environmental professionals
*Must have good interpersonal astuteness and the ability to work
with various level of the organization.
*The incumbent will ensure Environmental reporting, recordkeeping,
training, investigations of all incidents (SIF) and non-compliance
incidents. Qualifications & Experience Requirements* PSM*A
Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Environmental/Safety, Engineering,
or a closely related field, along with a minimum 10 years of
experience in Manufacturing, is required.
*At least 5 years of experience as an Environmental Director in
industrial settings such as Metals, Chemical, Pulp & Paper, or
Beverage industries is required.
*A minimum of 10 years of knowledge and experience in Environmental
regulatory compliance across all media (air, greenhouse gas, water,
waste) is required.
*Understanding and experience with Title V air permits is
required.
*Experience in defining and securing Environmental permits,
approvals, and regulatory requirements for existing and/or new
corporate facilities is required.
*Proficiency in using existing programs and systems, such as
internal Environmental/Incident Management Information Systems and
various regulatory agency reporting systems (e.g., EPCRA, SARA
311/312 or Tier II, Storm Water, SARA 313, GHGRP), is required.
*Effective communication skills (both oral and written) are
necessary for internal and external interactions.
*Ability to work effectively with others and strong team-building
skills are required.
*Strong planning and organizing skills are essential.
*Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel,
