Position Details Position Information Classification Title Academic Professional AC Pay Grade FLSA Faculty Rank Academic Professional Contract Type Tenure Status Non-Tenure Track Minimum Qualifications Terminal degree in a disciplinary area appropriate for the position (as defined in the job posting) Position Summary The University of Georgia's School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) seeks applications for an non-tenure track Academic Professional to serve as the Director of the Master of International Policy (MIP) degree program. The Master of International Policy (MIP) prepares graduate students for careers in international security, nonproliferation, and human security. The Director of the Master of International Policy degree program is responsible for shaping the mission of the MIP program, recruiting students to the program, developing the curriculum for the MIP, identifying instructors within and outside of the University of Georgia to offer courses in the program, providing academic advising of Master's and pre-Master's students (e.g., current and prospective Double Dawgs students), developing pre-professional opportunities for MIP students including identification of internships and career options, supervision of graduate teaching assistants and undergraduate student workers, fundraising for the program, and evaluation of the program. The Director also collaborates with the Office of the Dean of the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) and all departments and centers within SPIA and collaborates with other academic and non-academic units on campus so as to develop partnerships and support for the MIP program. The Director also collaborates with administrators, faculty, and staff in the Center for International Trade and Security (CITS) to identify synergies between the MIP and the work of the Center. The Director reports to the Head of the Department of International Affairs in consultation with the Dean of the School of Public and International Affairs. CITS's mission is to promote peace and prosperity through programs that focus on the mitigation of threats to national, regional, and international security, including threats posed by the transfer, trade, and use of technologies and materials associated with weapons of mass destruction (WMD). This includes the safety and security of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear materials, and strategic trade controls on dual use products related to both WMD and conventional weapons. The Center also teaches and trains students and professionals to address other threats to national security, such as threats to energy infrastructure, border security risks, cybersecurity risks, threats to legal trade regimes, and terrorism. CITS contributes to SPIA's CITS experts serve as instructors in the MIP Program, whose graduates have been placed in prestigious educational and governmental institutions. Likewise, CITS experts administer the year-long Richard B. Russell Security Leadership Program which prepares undergraduates for careers in nonproliferation and national security. SLP Fellows have earned distinguished national and international scholarships and have been hired by US government agencies, international organizations, corporations, and consulting firms. The person hired for this position will be responsible for recruiting students to the program, developing the curriculum for the MIP, identifying instructors within and outside of the University of Georgia to offer courses in the program, providing academic advising of Master's and pre-Master's students (e.g., current and prospective Double Dawgs students), developing pre-professional opportunities for MIP students including identification of internships and career options, supervision of graduate teaching assistants and undergraduate student workers, fundraising for the program, and evaluation of the program. Additional Requirements The incumbent must possess a Ph.D. in international policy or international affairs. The Center seeks a candidate who has led a degree-granting graduate program focusing on international security, and demonstrated experience, at least two years, in placing undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni in careers in international security. Evidence of curriculum development of and faculty recruitment to a graduate-level international security program are required. A record of peer-reviewed, published scholarship is required. At least two years teaching experience, beyond serving as a teaching assistant, in the area of international affairs at the undergraduate level and in the area of international security at the graduate level is required. The successful candidate must have a record appropriate for an Academic Professional faculty rank position (https://provost.uga.edu/_resources/documents/guidelinesapptpromotionacademicprofessionals.pdf) and must have a strong record of academic program development in international security, particularly at the graduate level, as well as demonstrated success at placing graduates of these programs in international security careers.
