Summary*Grant funded role only*
To provide overall oversight for the Peer Recovery Specialists
assigned to this and other projects. Will provide support for
onboarding and maintenance of certification for all Peer
Recovery/Certified Peer Support Specialists within Prisma Health.
Provide regular meetings for wellness and oversight. To also
support enrolled program patients that reinforce recovery from
serious mental illness or co-occurring mental illness and substance
use disorders. With a perspective of lived experience, the Peer
Support Specialist will model and coach recovery skills and
behaviors that are consistent with recovery from illness and
effective daily living skills in treatment and
communityAccountabilities
- Assists assigned patients in articulating personal goals for
recovery through the use of one to one and group interactions,
identifying and creating goals and developing recovery plans. -

- Assists enrolled patients in working with their assigned
providers (social worker, counselor nurse, employment specialist,
financial navigator, and physician) in determining steps needed in
order to achieve goals and self-directed recovery. - 15%
- Assists clients in developing and sustaining mutual support
groups (friendships, sponsors, etc.) as well as locating and
joining existing groups. - 15%
- Teaches problem solving techniques and shares own experience as
a model for navigating systems of care (medical/mental health).
With guidance of licensed providers facilitate group or individual
meetings to provide recovery mentorship and examples of recovery
benefits. - 15%
- Assists enrolled patients in building effective skills to
function effectively in permanent supportive housing, mental health
treatment, vocational, and other necessary community environments.

- To provide overall oversight for the Peer Recovery Coaches
assigned to this and other projects. Will provide support for
onboarding and maintenance of certification for all Peer
Recovery/Certified Peer Support Specialists within the PRISMA
Upstate Health System. Provide regular meetings for wellness and
oversight. - 25%Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent - Associates Degree in
related field preferred.
- Minimum of one year Current or former consumer of mental health
services for Serious Mental Illness, Substance Use Disorder or a
combination; One year experience in local/national consumer
movement and/or demonstrable recovery expertise in 12 step, mental
health, or duel diagnosis recovery community with CPSS
certification; Experience with homelessness (having been homeless)
is preferred. Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
- CPSS- Certified Peer Support Specialist (DAODAS) - must be
obtained within 90 days of hireIn Lieu OfIn Lieu of the
certification requirements noted above - Peer Support Specialist by
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Faces and Voices of
Recovery (FAVOR), or other comparable Agency/Organization, CPSS
training and certification will be accepted in place of DAODAS
issued certification.
