Job Description Job Description Job Summary: The Nurse
Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) will provide a wide
range of pre, peri, and post-operative care to orthopedic surgical
patients. The NP or PA will participate under the supervising
surgeon's direct, general, or personal supervision in the office
and hospital settings. Essential Functions: - Formulate treatment
plans to address clinical issues from patients, office, and
hospital staff to include phone, electronic, or face-to-face
inquiries - Application of cast and splinting (if orthopedic) -
Perform procedures at various hospital settings under physician
supervision (direct/indirect) commensurate with training,
experience, and/or credentialing - Other duties as assigned and
requested by surgical team members - Admitting patients and placing
admission orders. - Performing detailed History & Physicals. -
Performing Consultations. - Performing Progress notes and inpatient
rounding - Performing outpatient clinic exams - Discharging
patients, placing discharge orders, and writing discharge
summaries. - Initial and ongoing assessment of the patient’s
medical, physical, and psychosocial status. - Making appropriate
referrals to other health professionals and community agencies. -
Ordering and interpreting diagnostic laboratory tests and
diagnostic imaging studies. - Developing and implementing treatment
plans. - Ordering medications and writing prescriptions by word of
mouth, telephone or other means of communication. PAs and NPs may
prescribe controlled substances with a current DEA. - Placing
perioperative orders. - Placing transfer orders. - Performing
bedside procedures to include wound debridement, incision,
drainage, biopsies, etc. - Complete all documentation within 48
hours of the encounter - Comply with local billing/coding
regulations - First or second assist for minor and major
procedures/surgeries - Wound care: debridement, irrigation,
closure, bandaging - Repair of lacerations: simple, intermediate,
complex - Nasogastric tube insert/removal - Urinary bladder
catheterization insert/removal - Venipuncture - Control of
hemorrhage - Collection of specimens - Drain removal - Dye
injections - Casting and splinting - Local anesthesia - Removal of
foreign bodies - Wound vac placement and removal -
Electrocardiogram - Reduction of dislocations and fractures - Joint
injections Competencies: - Must have a high level of interpersonal
skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations - Working
knowledge of medical terminology - Good phone skills; Excellent
Customer Service - Organized; sets priorities, and able to
multi-task - Baccalaureate Degree or higher in Nurse Practitioner
or Physician Assistant - Studies or related degree - Completion of
an AANP-approved program or PA-approved program with 60 hours of
didactical training in pharmacology - Current NP or PA licensure.
Current certification by the American Academy of Nurse
Practitioners (AANP) or American Academy of Physician Assistants
(AAPA) - 1-3 years of surgery experience or completion of an NP or
PA surgical residency program - Experience in orthopedic surgery
and trauma patient care Compensation details: 150000-150000 Yearly
