Description: The Certified Surgical Technologist functions under
the direction of the registered professional nurse. They assist the
healthcare team in providing safe, age-appropriate, and culturally
aware patient care. They possess the knowledge, skills, and ability
to perform duties within the context of moderate to high acuity
surgical cases. They anticipate the needs of the surgeon and other
members of the healthcare team. They demonstrate an acquisition of
additional surgical skills for progressively more difficult cases.
They exhibit an organized surgical plan for assigned cases. They
take initiative to discuss the surgical plan with other team
members. They troubleshoot instruments and equipment effectively.
They anticipate additional supplies or equipment required for
procedures. They have the ability to mentor, precept, or train in
various modalities. They participate in performance improvement
initiatives. Duties include the preparation of the operative suite
and surgical field to ensure a safe patient care environment. They
gather required instruments and supplies and serve as surgical
assistants as needed. They ensure the unit is compliant with
relevant standards at all times. Additional duties may include
assisting with inventory, ordering, and stocking of operating rooms
and other assigned perioperative areas. They support the healthcare
team in providing safe and culturally sensitive patient care. They
provide relationship-based, patient-centered care that adapts to
the needs of specific populations. They practice using current
clinical practice standards under supervision. They uphold all
organizational policies and procedures, including legal and
accreditation requirements. They support evidence-based practice
and ethical accountability. They demonstrate teamwork and
collaboration. They serve as patient advocates, ensuring comfort
and safety measures are provided. They maintain the cleanliness and
organization of the surgical area. They participate in the
preparation of rooms for incoming patients. They actively seek
opportunities to improve processes and collaborate with the
healthcare team. They complete all required competencies and
participate in mandatory education. They strive to create a
positive learning environment for students and new hires. They
retain and implement new information and processes effectively.
