CNC Machinist - Programmer

Job Description:

Creates numerical control program to control contour-path machining of metal and plastic parts on a specific or limited CNC machines.  Analyzes drawings, sketches, and design data of part to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates according to knowledge of machine shop processes, part specifications, and machine capabilities. Can perform all the duties of CNC Operator and CNC Set Up.  Other duties may be assigned.

This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.


  • Ability to perform all duties of a set-up person.
  • Have a competent knowledge of EIA and macro ‘b’ programming.
  • Know the difference between each machine’s ‘G’ and ‘M’ codes.
  • Ability to write a program from scratch to machine part to print.
  • Be able to program multi-axis (A and B) machines.
  • Be able to determine best method of machining.
  • Be able to make new fixtures if and when required.
  • Be able to communicate with Engineering for improved machining methods, print mistakes, or optional material size and/or grade.

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 4 + years Machining experience running lathes and mills (manual and CNC)
  • 4 + years CNC Programming experience with Mills
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Able to work 1st or 2nd shift
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and their symbols.
  • Knowledge of micrometers (manual and digital).
  • Read comparators such as radii, angular, and size.
  • Able to operate a personal computer and various software packages.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
