Job Description:

Summary/Objective

The Department Leader is responsible for the supervision, coordination and evaluation of activities and work performance for a team of operators and material handlers, for customer communication, problem resolution and general management of shift functions.

Essential Functions

  • Plan, organize and monitor the receiving, sequencing and/or shipment of materials to meet customer specifications for on-time delivery and quality standards
  • Lead and direct team leaders and employees on efficiency, quality, and safety of operations
  • Understand and demonstrate safe work practices and maintain a safe work environment
  • Demonstrate high levels of good housekeeping practices to promote a safe and clean work environment
  • Conduct safety accident investigations as necessary
  • Reconcile all RF scanning issues
  • Assist in receiving loads into WMS (Warehouse Management System)
  • Interpret customer specifications, and broadcast production pull, projection and/or receiving schedule to employees
  • Study production schedules and estimate work hour requirements for completion of job assignments
  • Plan work schedules and assign duties
  • Establish and adjust work procedures to meet production standards
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality standards
  • Suggest changes in working conditions to increase efficiency of workflow and work crew
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist employees in resolving work problems
  • Assist in improving a system of production control, standard operating procedures, safety, quality control, and performance management
  • Recommend staffing requirements and assist in employee selection process, including promotions and transfers
  • Confer with other Operations Leaders to coordinate activities among different shifts
  • Comply and enforce all company policies and procedures
  • Maintain and manage time and attendance records on company's timekeeping system
  • Direct and supervise hourly employees
  • Plan and coordinate work, train and motivate, monitor, and evaluate performance of operators, material handlers and team leaders
  • Regular and reliable attendance at work

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field
  • Minimum of four (4) years of work experience in manufacturing or logistics setting
  • Minimum of two (2) years of leadership experience
  • Experience working with MS Office software and business-related systems (WMS, SAP)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to use mathematical equations to compute productivity reports
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and proven safety record
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment

Work Environment

This job is performed in a busy warehouse environment with high forklift traffic. Warehouses are subject to seasonal temperatures. Steel-toed shoes, safety glasses and vests are required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
