Position Summary

The Department of Pathology at the University of Georgia invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track faculty positions at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the area of translational genomics and precision medicine. We are seeking outstanding and innovative candidates with active research programs to join the Precision One Health Hiring Initative at the University of Georgia. The selected faculty members will utilize molecular and bioinformatic tools to identify unique antigenic and pathogenic characteristics, biomarkers, and distinctive metabolic pathways of diseases of human and animal populations to better understand disease etiology, transmission dynamics, pathogenesis, and host and environmental factors that contribute to disease progression.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record working with genomic (or other -OMICS) or bioinformatic tools in defining disease pathogenesis, epidemiology, and diagnostic biomarkers in disciplines that would include infectious disease, immunology, oncology, and developmental and neurodegenerative diseases. Successful candidates for this position will have the opportunity to participate in an interdisciplinary precision medicine program that includes a team of basic and applied scientists, engineers, frontline practitioners, policymakers and communications experts all working together with OMICS experts to translate basic findings from the bench to the bedside or industry, with the goal of improving the health and wellbeing of humans and animals. This position requires some teaching duties at the undergraduate level. The Precision One Health initiative at UGA seeks to hire a total 16 new faculty positions that will focus on three pillars of disease management including 1) pathogenesis and diagnostics (this position), and 2) preventive measures and 3) therapeutic intervention.

The College of Veterinary Medicine will utilize this initiative to demonstrate our commitment to diversifying our faculty and ensure that we maintain and grow the culture of equity and inclusivity in our college. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are core values of the university and college, and this hiring initiative will make use of the best practices to ensure an inclusive search process. The Diversity and Inclusion Plan for the college identifies priority areas for our investments and through the 2021-2022 academic year we will develop a Diversity Strategic Plan as part of a campus-wide effort.
