Position Summary
The Department of Infectious Diseases in the College of Veterinary
Medicine (CVM) and the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory (SREL) in
the Office of Research at the University of Georgia invite
applications for a jointly appointed, tenure-track assistant,
associate or full professor in disease ecology. For information
about the requirements for appointment for each rank, please see
the University of Georgia's Guidelines for Appointment, Promotion,

responses to climate change or land use, emerging vector-borne
diseases, evolutionary strategies for limiting the spread of
insecticide and drug resistance in pathogens and vectors,
determinants of host shifts within and between ecosystems,
behavioral influences of infectious disease dynamics,
vector-pathogen population genetics, terrestrial-aquatic linkages,
the influence of anthropogenic stressors on infection dynamics, and
data-driven modeling of infectious disease dynamics across scales
of organization. Candidates should have a strong question-driven
research program, which integrates experimental (e.g., field,
laboratory, molecular) data with state-of-the-art modelling tools,
to address the most challenging problems in one or more of these
areas. The University of Georgia has world-renowned departmental
programs in both infectious diseases (https://vet.uga.edu/id) and
ecology (http://www.ecology.uga.edu), which are augmented by
research centers focused on parasitology (https://ctegd.uga.edu),
disease ecology (https://srel.uga.edu, and http://ceid.uga.edu),
and ecosystem science (https://srel.uga.edu). This faculty position
is intended to strengthen ties among units that offer support for
collaboration in areas of graduate training, research, and
undergraduate education. The successful candidate will have access
to newly constructed Arthropod Containment Level II/III and BSL
II/III facilities and to a wide variety of molecular and analytical
instrumentation available to faculty at both locations.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a
rigorous, externally funded, and nationally recognized research
program and contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and
mentoring.
