Position Summary
The incumbent will oversee undergraduate-employer engagement services for the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) including internships, fellowships, and entry-level job opportunities for undergraduate students. Major duties include developing and implementing strategies to prepare students for internships, identifying and recruiting internship sponsors, and placing students into internships and jobs. The employee will collaborate with the SPIA Office of Development and External Relations (ODER), SPIA Office of Student Affairs, UGA Career Center among other campus offices to plan and execute effective career awareness, readiness, and development programming geared toward SPIA students and careers in public and international affairs; as well as represent SPIA at various events in order to expand and improve SPIA career services. This position has off-campus visits to employers. Some travel is necessary.

  • Knowledge of careers and job market in public affairs, policy, government, and non-profit sectors.
  • Excellent networking skills and demonstrated success in developing relationships with intern sponsors, recruiters, and employers on behalf of students in higher education.
  • Ability to travel, including out of state, overnight, and on some weekends.
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Confidence in preparing and making presentations before small and large groups.
  • Ability to assess program results and develop reports on program outcomes.
  • Absolute trustworthiness with confidential and sensitive information, communications, and materials.

  • Success in collaborating and coordinating with multiple offices and teams.

  • Aptitude for financial analysis and maintaining a detailed and sizeable budget.

    Business Management of SPIA's Funded Internship Placement Programs

    • Administer budget, invoicing, and reimbursements for funded internship programs.
    • Coordinate with business services in SPIA on tasks associated with funded internship programs.
    • Supervise collection of documentation from agency sponsors & students involved in programs.
    • Communicate with agency sponsors, students, & business office on issues related to programs.
    • Collect & maintain documentation & M.O.U.s with agency sponsors.
    • Participate in the selection and awarding of any private funds for internships.

      Building External Relationships for Student Career Readiness

      • Maintain existing relationships with agency sponsors related to public & international affairs.
      • Coordinate with SPIA ODER to pursue new relationships & placements with agencies related to public & international affairs.
      • Coordinate with SPIA ODER on relevant programming involving career awareness and alumni networking for students.
      • Coordinate communications on internship programs and career-related programming with ODER.
      • Participate in relevant SPIA ODER meetings.
      • Participate in relevant training for Giving & Alumni Information Link (GAIL), UGA's constituent relationship management database.
      • Record relevant interactions & activities with alumni and partner organizations in GAIL.
      • Coordinate with ODER to document and tag student internship participants in GAIL.

        Organizing Student Career Awareness and Development

        • Recruit & select students to internship placements with agency partners.
        • Promote career development, awareness, and internship experiences to students in SPIA.
        • Coordinate with the UGA Career Center on programming related to career readiness for SPIA students.
        • Team with academic advisors to develop internship & career related information & programming for SPIA students.
        • Provide career development and job/internship search advisement to individual students based on knowledge of employment in public and international affairs.
        • Participate in relevant SPIA OSA meetings & activities.
