Position Summary
This position provides academic advising, from major admission
through graduation, to undergraduate students in the
department/major; a high level of independent work is expected in
service to students. This position also supports the department in
a variety of student-focused tasks related to internships,
record-keeping, job placements, scholarships and Double Dawgs.
Additionally, this position is responsible for managing
departmental class schedules and loading courses. The person in
this position is expected to employ effective problem-solving and
interpersonal communication skills. This advisor is an integral
part of the department and an involved member of the Terry Advising
Team, participating in meetings, professional development, events
and student support activities.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Strong interpersonal communication and writing skills. Knowledge of
UGA and Terry College academic programs, policies, and procedures
desirable. Familiarity with student information system desirable.
Prior advising or equivalent combination of training and
experience.

Advise Terry Major/Certificate Students
Meet with assigned students to advise them on departmental and
University curriculum requirements and to provide in-depth
information and answer questions related to majors, areas of
emphasis and/or certificates in the Terry College of Business.
Provide each student with accurate information about their program
of study, make recommendations about course selection for upcoming
semesters, generate advising forms detailing these recommendations
and maintain detailed SAGE notes about advising meetings.
Communicate important academic calendar dates to students. As
needed, counsel students on academic deficiencies, probation and
dismissal. Provide accurate information regarding students'
academic progress from major/certificate admission to graduation;
complete graduation checks, maintain accurate graduation rosters
and conduct graduation appointments. Answer student questions and
concerns in a timely manner by phone, email and on a walk-in basis.
Direct students to resources on campus, including but not limited
to other departments/colleges at UGA, Honors, study abroad
programs, tutoring and other forms of academic assistance,
counseling, etc. Advisors at this level are expected to have full
knowledge of resources that support students in areas other than
their academic life and to refer students to appropriate
individuals and offices as needed. They should also have
significant experience with UGA rules, regulations, policies and
procedures pertaining to academic advising, as well as a basic
understanding of the Terry admissions process, other Terry majors
and programs and the ability to skillfully use advising systems,
including Athena, Banner, Argos, SAGE and Degreeworks. Monitor and
control the appointment and walk-in process; create and update
advising materials; maintain current files on all assigned
students; keep up-to-date records on students in the major and
department-related programs (e.g., certificates); archive such
records as necessary.

Provide academic program support as directed by the department
head, including but not limited to,
* Participating in Terry College student orientation
* Serving as a resource to undergraduate student organizations
* Serving as an ex officio member of the department's Undergraduate
Program Committee
* Assisting in the screening of undergraduate students for
department, college and university recognition
* Participating in Terry Honors Day and Terry Convocation

Departmental Course Maintenance and Monitoring
Maintain all courses offered through the department. Load all
courses and faculty (new and current) using Banner. Coordinate
classroom requests and updates to courses. Schedule night exams as
needed. Update CAPA as required. Monitor enrollment in
undergraduate courses throughout registration cycle. Coordinate and
clear student course access in department's major and area of
emphasis. Manage student requests for equivalent transfer
courses.

Attend Meetings, Professional Development and UGA/College
EventsMeet periodically with direct supervisor, program directors
and department advisor colleagues to coordinate assignments and
enhance internal communication efforts. Maintain and enhance
knowledge of college and university rules and policies affecting
degree/certificate programs by regularly attending mandatory staff
meetings, including monthly Terry Advisor Team meetings. Work with
other Terry academic units to provide information on degree
options, dual majors and collaborative efforts within Terry.
Regularly attend advisor workshops and other professional
development opportunities closely related to academic advising
(e.g., Certificate in Academic Advising, Diversity & Inclusion
Certificate). Attend Terry and UGA functions as required (including
but not limited to Terry Majors Fair, Terry Convocation, Terry
Major Orientation and welcome back events). Represent department at
recruitment events as required.

Provide Career Advisement and AssistanceProvide students
information on career opportunities; facilitate communications
between students and the UGA Career Center, the department and
employers, as well as between the department and Terry's
Undergraduate Student Services office. Assist with student
internship and job placements as needed. Comprise and keep a list
of all student internships within the major. Monitor internship
enrollment and compliance with departmental policy.
