Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in preferred disciplines such as Business Analytics, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Management and Information Systems.


Position Summary
This incumbent will serve as a statistical and visual technician in translating client data into actionable organizational intelligence for data-informed decision making. This individual's primary responsibilities will be building custom statistical and visual analytics for client-driven projects using Microsoft's PowerBI and Qlik's Qlik Sense along with open-source computing and statistical programming languages (e.g., R, Python, and Julia). Additional responsibilities include performing other procedural steps in the data science life cycle such as data ingestion, cleaning, management, and exploration using open-source and proprietary resources that are locally hosted or cloud-based. Secondary responsibilities include serving in a support role for completing initiatives germane to the Institute's strategic missions such as delivering client training, building and editing reports or visuals, and provide technical assistance on ad-hoc projects.


This role involves a service-oriented mentality with a high sense of ownership of the projects, problems and requests assigned. This employee will be actively participating in a high energy, creative development environment serving state and local government clients. Successful candidates will demonstrate initiative in maintaining and updating core statistical, computational, and technical skills. Successful candidates should have a high degree of independence and self-direction when working on projects.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies


  • Knowledge of preferred disciplines such as Business Analytics, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Management and Information Systems.
  • Experience with visual and statistical analytics using business intelligence platforms (e.g., Microsoft's PowerBI and Qlik's Qlik Sense) and open-source statistical and computational languages (e.g., R, Python, Julia).
  • Strong understanding of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government's strategic mission and goals.
  • Strong interpersonal oral and written communication.
  • Strong technical writing and programming code documentation.
  • Self-motivated with keen attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of geographical information systems and spatial data is preferred.
  • Experience consulting on client projects is preferred.
  • Experience working on a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
  • Experience presenting complex information to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience building custom statistical and visual analytics for clients is preferred.
  • Prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Sound project and time management skills.
  • High degree of independence in working on projects.
  • Experience working with non-profit and government organizations is preferred.
