Position Summary
The County Extension SNAP-Ed Program Assistant is a para-professional who works with County Extension Agents to deliver the SNAP-Ed programming in their assigned geographic area(s) and performs duties necessary to assist the county extension agents in the day-to-day conduct of programs. This employee works cooperatively with all Extension faculty and staff where applicable and is administratively responsible to the County Extension Coordinator and the District Extension Director and programmatically responsible to an assigned County Extension FACS Agent.

  • Ability to relate effectively with limited resources to adults, youth and families.
  • Skills in informal teaching environments at sites where limited resources for individuals are located
  • Strong communication skills and experience interacting with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to lead groups effectively

    • Some degree of physical activity, including lifting, to conduct programs (e.g., handling animals, supplies and demonstration materials, audio/visual equipment, etc.).
    • Some standing and/or sitting for various lengths of time.

      Duties/Responsibilities

      • Responsible for paraprofessional work under the supervision and direction of County Extension Agents/Supervisors.
      • Plans, organizes, schedules, and conducts nutrition and food safety classes for limited-resource clients, including youth and adults with children.
      • Assists the county agent/supervisor in providing the information requested by clients and exhibit qualities of independent judgment.
      • Assist with organizing, conducting, and assisting in the evaluation of nutrition education programs for low-income adults and youth.
      • Support the work of staff members to ensure that program goals are met and resources are used effectively.
