Preferred Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college with background in audiovisual production, media arts, oral history, or digital archives; OR Two years of college education AND one year related audiovisual production experience; OR three years' work experience in a broadcast/audiovisual production environment; OR any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. -- Valid Georgia driver's license with good driving record. -- Experience performing diverse, technical, and complex tasks with accuracy and attention to detail. -- Experience using and knowledge of current practices for video production, sound recording, and post-production. -- Demonstrated experience working in or with historically marginalized and/or underrepresented groups and communities -- Experience with archives management tools such as Archivists' Toolkit, ArchivesSpace, OHMS Oral History Metadata Synchronizer, EAD, DACS -- Experience processing audiovisual collections for archives -- Experience with command-line programs -- Experience with LTO/LTFS tape workflows -- Knowledge of creating and managing digital objects in a high production environment Position Summary The Oral History Coordinator is responsible to the Head of Oral History and Media for coordinating the post-production, preservation, description, and access (including web-based access) of oral history collections at the Russell Library. The Oral History Coordinator supports the unit and Oral History Program by collaborating with the Head in the management and curation of the oral history collections, including the supervision of several student interns. The Coordinator assists with oral history project design and production of interviews for the Russell Library and its collaborators. This work engages and works successfully with project and community partners, with attention to historically marginalized and underrepresented groups, by providing conceptual and technical support for oral history activities through effective community engagement practices, training, workshops, fundraising, and outreach. Additional and important aspects of the position include assisting in and trouble-shooting media playback, digital preservation, and transfer operations of the Russell's audiovisual collections, supporting the creation of finding aids for all audiovisual materials, and participating in policy and logistics meetings of the Russell Library. The Oral History Coordinator has a strong grounding of experience and skill sets in post-production and videography, and sound recording for oral history or documentary arts. S/he will have a firm understanding of the methodology of oral history, including its core and evolving practices in the digital age, and the fundamental principles of the field and discipline through a familiarity with video and oral history bibliography and resources. This position performs highly complex duties and exercises with an exceptional degree of authority, independence, and initiative in decision-making and creative problem-solving that requires careful interpretation, attention to detail, and constant use of discretionary judgment. The Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies is a department within the University of Georgia Libraries that reports to the University Librarian. The Russell Library serves as a center for research and study of the modern American political system and administers the Georgia Capitol Museum (Atlanta). Established in 1974, the Library's original mission was to collect and preserve materials that document the life and career of the late Richard B. Russell, United States Senator from Georgia from 1933 to 1971. With particular emphasis on the role of Georgia and the U. S. Congress, current collection development and programming focus on the dynamic relationship of politics, policy, and culture-generated wherever public interest intersects with government. The breadth and depth of Russell Library's collections provide an interconnected framework of perspectives and experiences for understanding the increasingly diverse people, events, and ideas shaping Georgia's political landscape. The Russell Library pursues alliances and opportunities for collaboration with individuals and organizations that advance its mission. The Russell Library is a founding member of the Association of Centers for the Study of Congress and a primary partner and official repository for the Foot Soldier Project for Civil Rights Studies, a collaborative project dedicated to documenting and chronicling the activity and perceptions of lesser known participants in the civil rights movement in Georgia. The Russell Library staff consists of the Director (department head), seven archivists, three staff positions, and several student assistants and interns. Duties/Responsibilities Duties/Responsibilities Collaborates with the Head and is responsible for effectively managing the physical, digital, and intellectual control of oral history collections and interviews: Supervises one or more OHMS (Oral History Metadata Synchronizer) student interns and related workflows, including metadata creation for indexing and transcription synchronization; Supervises video captioning, auditing and processing of transcripts; Collaborates and consults with the Arrangement and Description Unit to create finding aids, inventories, and other points of access according to archival standards; Creates and exports finding aids from Archivists Toolkit to finding aid database and manages other descriptive, technical, structural, and administrative metadata; Creates persistent links and digital objects; Curates collections online by managing streaming content online on several platforms (Kaltura, YouTube, SoundCloud) and creating digital exhibits. Collaborates with the Digital Archivist in digital object and bag creation validation using file validation tools; Collaborates in digitization, preservation of, and access to audiovisual materials in all Russell Library collections through awareness and use of existing and emerging technologies, and practices for analog-to-digital transfer, preservation and curation; Uses LTO/LTFS archival tape workflows to securely store/restore archival digital objects; Consults with the Head and other Libraries staff on implementation of new software, hardware, and applications to develop, support, and maintain digital preservation environments. Uses and maintains recording equipment to produce interviews and record audio, video, still image for oral history interviews; collaborates with the Head, Director, and Libraries staff to identify gaps in the holdings and prospective interviewees and projects for oral history documentation; produces, negotiates, and maintains oral history gift and release agreements; promotes and maintains donor and project partner relations; collaborates with the Head to provide service and oral history support to appropriate UGA departments within and outside the Libraries; travels as necessary to perform responsibilities.
