Job Description:

Responsibility & AuthorityThe CDL-A Driver inspects equipment and safely delivers goods in compliance with federal and state regulations, including FMCSA and DOT regulations. The driver has an expert understanding of transportation processes and customer needs and identifies and proactively address hazards and risks. The CDL-A driver participates in routine safety training, inspects and completes basic maintenance and delivers goods in accordance with DOT, FMCSA, customer and Bluegrass guidelines..

Minimum Position Requirements (Skills & Abilities)

  • Expert knowledge of DOT and FMCSA requirements as well as principles of moving goods
  • Maintains training records and other OSHA, DOT and FMCSA records
  • Ensures adherence with fleet standards in accordance with DOT and FMCSA regulations

      • Inspect equipment before, during and after trips and submits accurate and timely reports regarding condition of equipment
      • Reads bill of lading to determine assignment
      • Fastens chains or binders to secure load on trailer during transit
      • Loads or unloads or assists in loading or unloading goods
      • Works independently or as a member of a two-person team driving a tractor with a sleeper bunk behind the cab
      • Services truck with oil, fuel and fluid as needed
      • Obtains customer's signature for payment of services
      • Inventories and inspects goods to be moved
      • Wraps goods using pads or containers and secures load to trailer wall using straps
      • When applicable, directs in packing and moving goods to the trailer
      • Drives tractor trailer combination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations, to transport and deliver products or materials, typically over long distances
      • Maneuvers truck into loading and unloading position, following signals from loading crew as needed
      • Drives truck to weigh station before and after loading and along route to document weight and conform to state regulations
      • Maintains driver log according to ICC regulations
      • Running, maneuvering, navigating or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment such as forklifts, or passenger vehicles clearly and accurately entering, transcribing, recording, storing or maintaining information in written or electronic form regarding the maintenance of equipment and movement of goods
      • Repairing and Maintaining Mechanical Equipment: servicing, repairing, adjusting and testing machines, devices, moving parts and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical principles. using both hands and both arms, installing, positioning, and moving materials and manipulating locations.
      • Inspecting Equipment, Structures or Materials: Inspecting equipment, structures or materials and identifying the cause of errors or other problems.
      • Communicating with Leadership, Customers and Peers: providing information to Bluegrass and to customers by phone, in writing, in email or in person
      • Performing Administrative Activities: performing day to day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing and verifying information and data. considerable use of both arms, both legs and moving the entire body by climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials. observing, receiving and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources

        • CDL-A Drivers are required to pass and maintain DOT physicals and to maintain DOT medical certificates.
        • The ability to accurately see details at a distance, far vision, without hesitation.
        • The ability to quickly respond (with hands, fingers of feet/legs) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears.
        • The ability to choose quickly between two or more movements in response to two or more different signals (lights, sounds, pictures) including the speed with which the correct response is started with the hands, feet or other body part.
        • The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects.
        • The ability to accurately see details at close range (within a few feet) without hesitation.
